Businesswoman turned legislator Carolyn Dizon-Sison made the city and her fellow consumers proud anew.
Sison, the eldest daughter of senior Provincial Board Member Danilo B. Dizon who too is a staunch advocate of consumer protection, was recently honored by the ConsumerNet-Pangasinan during a simple rites hosted by the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) on Oct. 26, 2006 at City De Luxe, Dagupan City.
The concurrent Committee Chair on Labor, Trade, Industry and OFW of the City Council earned the citation for her active role and invaluable contributions in promotion and protection consumer rights and welfare.
For her humble feat, the Marketing, Sales and Management head of Family Trade House Corporation is expected to receive another commendation, this time from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
This, as Board Member Danny C. Uy, president Philippine Councilors League (PCL)-Pangasinan Chapter, will be sponsoring a resolution in the provincial board in recognition of her efforts, programs and support to the interest of consumers.
“PCL is proud of Ms. Sison since this is the first time that a councilor is cited by the ConsumerNet for her achievement,” said the alderman from Binalonan town in interview with the local media last week.
Mayor Hernani A. Braganza, Vice Mayor Teofilo G. Humilde Jr. and the Alaminos City Council as well as barangay leaders have also separately extended their warm congratulations to the beauteous and hardworking legislator.
In her acceptance speech, Sison, said she never expected to be conferred with such award. She though considered it as an honor and at the same time an inspiration for her to work harder for the benefit of her constituents and the consumers in the province.
“As a consumer and entrepreneur, I have seen things that must be done to promote the welfare of the buying public,” she added.
“In my capacity as public official and in constant coordination with the DTI and other concerned agencies, I realized that the ConsumerNet is the best forum and vehicle to enforce consumer rights for a progressive nation.”
Among the pieces of legislations authored by councilor Sison vital to the consumers include Timbangan ng Bayan, proposed ordinance on the creation of Consumer Welfare Desk. She is also one of the co-sponsors in the crafting of the city revenue and investment codes.
Supportive to the national government’s thrust of providing decent jobs to Filipinos here and abroad, the first-term city lady solon also sponsored a couple of job fairs in the city and the district.
Ms. Daria R. Mingaracal, DTI-Provincial Caretaker told Northwest Sun last week that business establishments are thriving because of consumers “so let’s do our best to keep consumers from being dissatisfied”.
According to her, DTI also expressed optimism that the ConsumerNet members would remain as strong partners not just during the celebration of National Consumer Welfare Month but more importantly on its year round programs.
To date, ConsumerNet Pangasinan has 145 members from various government agencies and business groups and is headed by Gov. Victor E. Agbayani and co-chaired by the DTI.
Completing this year’s ConsumerNet awardees are: ABS-CBN Northern Luzon’s Gemma Cacas, DZMQ-Dagupan City station manager Bernie Erasquin, DWRS-Tayug station manager Romeo Umipig and Sunday Punch Publisher Ermin Garcia. (CIO)
